Electroencephalogram at Hospital
September 6, 2014
(Don’t get worked up - Get wired up)
Electroencephalogram (EEG). This is a procedure that helps your neurologist to determine if you suffer from epilepsy The Unwelcome visitor (tuv) and indeed what type of (tuv) that a patient suffers from.
A clinical physiologist at the neurological department of your hospital, explains to you what they are going to do, whilst they are preparing you for your (eeg). Likewise they will analyse the results and then write a detailed report of their findings which in turn will be presented to your neurologist for his/her their analysis.
Firstly the clinical physiologist will apply a special solution to your scalp
They will now place approximately twenty electrodes to your scalp, which are held in place by special glue that has been applied.
They will now connect onto the electrodes some small wires that are connected to the (eeg) machine.
The physiologist will ask you to close your eyes for a length of time and likewise, ask you to keep them open.
Similarly your eyes will experience flashing lights going on and off.
The whole procedure will take approximately twenty five minutes
When this whole procedure has ended, the physiologist will now use a special solution to take off the suction pads and clear the ‘glue’ that held the suction pads into place.
That’s it. No pain whatsoever. The worst part will have been the flashing lights.
Electroencephalogram at home.
This is when your neurologist requires you to be monitored 24/7 for 3-4 days.
The procedure is exactly the same as above.
However as you are having your brain monitored both by day and by night in your home environment, they will ask you to press a button on your portable electroencephalogram box as, and when you get an aura (warning) of epilepsy.
Where you do not get a aura then someone, a relative of friend, will have to press button for you.
